Contact usBlepharoplasty or "Eyelid correction" is a surgical procedure to improve the youthful appearance around the eyes by removing excess skin for the upper eyelid and bags in the lower eyelid.
The procedure is done under Local Anaesthetic with Sedation by an anaesthetist. The scar in the upper eyelid falls into the natural fold so is not visible with the eyes open. The scar of the lower lid is just below the eyelashes in a very natural line. Post operatively Dura tears and ice packs are used to decrease bruising and swelling. Sutures are removed at four to five days post-operatively. Bruising typically lasts one to two weeks, however this can be quite individual.
You will recover overnight should the upper and lower eyelids be done at the same time, if either upper or lower are performed separately you would be done as an out-patient. You would be given the necessary medication before leaving the hospital.
In the first consultation Dr van der Poel will be able to get a good idea of your concerns as well as your expectations of the procedure. Dr van der Poel likes to see the patient for a second consultation in the week prior to the procedure to discuss any last-minute questions. Dr van der Poel takes time during his consultations to listen to your concerns and ensure that you are both on the same page.
