Face Lift

Rhytidectomy

Face lift or Rhytidectomy is a cosmetic procedure to gain a more youthful appearance by re-shaping the lower half of the face by removing excess skin and tightening the jowls and neck as well as the nasolabial fold.

An incision is made from just above the ear, in front of the ear in a very natural line, behind the ear in the fold and back into the hairline.  The only scar that might be visible is in front of the ear so no tension is put on the scar.  The muscles are tightened to lift the face and the skin is then re-draped over the tightened infrastructure giving a very marked, long lasting face-lift.  Sutures are removed one week post-operatively. You would recover for 1-2 nights in hospital with pressure dressing. The second morning the dressings are removed, and the hair washed before leaving the hospital.  You will be given pain medication and antibiotic ointment  to use on the wounds, to take home.

In the first consultation Dr van der Poel will be able to get a good idea of your concerns as well as your expectations of the procedure. Dr van der Poel likes to see the patient for a second consultation in the week prior to the procedure to discuss any last-minute questions. Dr van der Poel takes time during his consultations to listen to your concerns and ensure that you are both on the same page.

You will see Dr van der Poel weekly for two weeks following the procedure and thereafter as required.  We recommend the RegimA Scar repair cream which is stocked at our rooms, this will be applied to the scars from six weeks post operatively.

When you make your booking you will be given pre-operative instructions which will include medications and supplements to avoid prior to surgery since they can increase bleeding.  Should you have any concerns or questions you are welcome to call the rooms or send an email and we will be happy to assist.
